Strategy
# Archetype: strategy
The question must present a strategic / game-theory situation and ask for the
RATIONAL move. The correct answer rewards probabilistic thinking; distractors
trap intuition.
## Length budget (mobile UI — strategy is the worst-offender archetype here)
Strategy questions historically run 149+ chars (median was 149, p90 was 183
in the 2026-05-05 audit). This is incompatible with the mobile card.
Compress the scenario to a SINGLE clause. Drop names, locations, vivid
detail. Use 2nd person ("You're up 1 with 2 min left — foul intentionally?")
not narrative setup ("It's the closing minutes of a basketball game and your
team is leading by one point with two minutes remaining…").
- Question: ≤150 chars. Aim for ≤100.
- Each answer: ≤60 chars. Aim for ≤40 — answers should be the move itself,
not the reasoning.
Examples of stems (all ≤120 chars):
- "Opponent played rock 7 times. What's your best move next?"
- "Monty Hall: you picked door 1, host opens door 3 (goat). Switch?"
- "Up 1 with 2 min left in basketball. Foul intentionally?"
Distractor rule: include at least one distractor that is "naïve sophistication"
— the answer someone gives after one layer of strategic thinking but before
the second layer. The right answer typically requires going one step deeper.when to use it
