AI SETUP PROMPT
# AI Setup Prompt
This is a guided setup. You do not need to know how to code. You will get this repo onto your computer, then paste one prompt into your AI assistant and let it do the rest: install the skills, build the folders, and check that everything works.
It takes about ten minutes.
---
## Before you start: what you need
You need an AI assistant that can read and write files on your computer. A normal chat window (the AI in a browser tab) cannot create folders for you, so it cannot finish this setup on its own. Two common options that can:
- **Claude Desktop** with file access turned on (no terminal, friendliest for beginners).
- **Claude Code** (runs in a terminal, a little more technical).
If you do not have either set up yet, start with the free **Beyond the Chatbox** guide, which walks you through it from scratch: https://github.com/Mfrostbutter/beyond-the-chatbox . Come back here when your assistant can see your files.
---
## Step 1: Get this repo onto your computer
Pick whichever sounds easier. Both end with a `skill-forge` folder on your machine.
**Option A, download a ZIP (no tools needed):**
1. Go to the repo page on GitHub.
2. Click the green **Code** button near the top right.
3. Click **Download ZIP**.
4. Find the downloaded file (usually in your Downloads folder) and unzip it. You now have a folder called `skill-forge` (or `skill-forge-main`). Move it somewhere you will remember, like your Documents folder.
**Option B, clone with git (if you have git installed):**
1. Open your terminal.
2. Run: `git clone https://github.com/Mfrostbutter/skill-forge.git`
3. The `skill-forge` folder appears in whatever directory you ran that from.
Not sure which you have? Use Option A. It always works.
---
## Step 2: Point your assistant at the folder
- **Claude Desktop:** make sure the folder from Step 1 (and its parent) is in your assistant's allowed file locations, so it can read and write there. The Beyond the Chatbox guide shows how.
- **Claude Code:** open a session inside the `skill-forge` folder, or tell it the full path.
---
## Step 3: Paste this prompt to your assistant
Copy everything in the box below and send it. It is written so your assistant inspects your setup first and only asks you a question when it genuinely cannot tell. Where it shows `[the folder from Step 1]`, you can paste the actual location if you know it, or just let the assistant find it.when to use it
Community prompt sourced from the open-source GitHub repo Mfrostbutter/skill-forge (MIT). A "AI SETUP PROMPT" style prompt — adapt the placeholders and specifics to your task. Imported as-is and not independently retested here, so check the output before relying on it.
